Those who want to learn the game of blackjack should also learn the terminology used in the game. It would usually take just a few minutes to learn blackjack terminology since most of the meanings behind the words are quite obvious. Most of the time the words used in the terminology is already a clue to the actual meaning as it is used in blackjack.

Our first word in blackjack terminology is basic strategy. This obviously refers to a fundamental playing system you can use in the game to win more hands. Next we have hole card. A hole card is a common term used in many casino games. This generally refers to any face down card you see on the table, but it generally refers to the dealer's face down card.

A hard hand in blackjack is an initial hand that doesn't have an Ace on it or where the Ace is already assigned a value of one. In contrast a soft hand is one that has an Ace and the Ace is assigned or given a value equal to 11.

To stand, in blackjack terminology, means not to add a new card. The opposite of that is hit which means to get a new card to beef up your hand's total. Bust means that your hand's total gets to 22 or higher, which means you immediately lose. Push means you and the dealer have equal value hands and your bet is returned to you.

An American Hole Card Game is a blackjack variety where the dealer takes a peek at the hole card if the dealer up card is an Ace. The term blackjack is the name of the game and also refers to an original hand that has a value of 21. Double down is a move you can make, which means you get just one more card then double your original bet. A double down rescue is to give up half your bet after doubling down. Insurance is a side bet in case the dealer might get a blackjack.

In blackjack terminology, surrender means to give up half your original bet before playing the current hand. Early surrender is a rule in blackjack where a player surrenders before the check for the dealer's hole card. A late surrender works likewise only that it is done after the dealer checks for a blackjack. A split is separating your two initial hands and forming two new hands by adding a card each to them.
